POSITION TITLE: Ministerial Resident for Service and Immersions
DEPARTMENT: Saint John’s Campus Ministry
REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Campus Ministry
Description:
The Ministerial Resident in Campus Ministry for Service and Immersions is the member of the Campus Ministry team who has primary responsibility for social justice education and service and immersion opportunities. The position requires cooperation with other ministerial residents and may require coordination and cooperation with the CSB Office of Campus Ministry and the School of Theology and Seminary.
Responsibilities:
1. Attends weekly Campus Ministry staff meetings and holds regular office hours
2. Assist with campus wide Campus Ministry events, Sunday student mass, and major liturgies.
3. Works with the Assistant Director, Ministerial Residents, and student ministers to plan and implement programs in areas of social justice, service and immersions including:
a. Planning and coordinating regular service opportunities (Prayer & Work Series, Prison Ministry Corps, Casa San Benito)
b. Planning of awareness campaigns (i.e., Hunger and Homelessness Week, CRS Rice Bowl initiative)
c. Planning periodic awareness raising activities and other campus outreach opportunities (i.e. use of social media, social justice speakers, films, and table display panels)
d. Coordinating and leading week-long service-immersion experience (Spring Break, May term [TBD])
e. Connecting campus to local, national and global social justice resources
f. Maintaining a directory of local service sites
4. Assists the Director with SJU volunteer experiences and programming including:
a. Program assessment
b. Risk management including document tracking
c. Budget management including fundraising
d. Training and development regarding the mission of programming
5. Promotes service, generosity, and community outreach among current and graduating SJU undergraduate students, including:
a. Supports and promotes service opportunities made available by Saint John’s Abbey (i.e., Benedictine Volunteer Corps)
b. Assists in the selection of beneficiaries for Sunday 9pm Mass Collections
c. Assists as needed in planning and presentation of monthly staff development meetings.
d. Assists in the planning of and attend August and January Campus Ministry all staff retreats.
e. Assists with the coordination of volunteer opportunities with other departments in the University.
f. Supervises and mentors undergraduate employees assigned to this area.
6. Other duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director of Campus Ministry
Minimum Qualifications:
This position is intended to provide an opportunity for 2+ years of ministry immersion for a person who is:
a. a professed member of Saint Benedict’s Monastery or Saint John’s Abbey who has either completed or is pursuing a graduate program of theological/pastoral studies; and/or,
b. a student who is enrolled in the Saint John’s School of Theology and Seminary and is making progress toward completion of a program of graduate theological/pastoral studies.
Knowledge, abilities, skills:
- Must be a practicing Roman Catholic with continuing active membership in a parish/faith community
- Effective communication skills (listening, speaking, and writing)
- Computer skills
- A high level of competence, judgment, and appropriate confidentiality
- Knowledge and appreciation of the Benedictine heritage and character of Saint John’s Abbey and University
- Able to work collaboratively
- Is creative, motivated, compassionate, reliable and organized
- Has some experience with participating in or leading service and immersion experiences
- Has some understanding of young adult men and their particular spiritual or developmental needs
- A commitment of 2-3 years of residency, based on his/her particular degree program

As a minister of the Roman Catholic Church, the successful candidate will also maintain a lifestyle that is publicly consistent with Catholic teaching and Benedictine values.
Formation Requirements:
Ministerial Residents are required to participate in the SOT formation program, including developing learning goals, theological reflections, and individual and group spiritual companioning. In addition to SOT formation, the Ministerial Resident meets monthly with the Assistant Director of Campus Ministry as part of ongoing formation and assessment.
Work Schedule: Administrative, 9-month (August 15 - May 15); 20 hours per week
