Program Endorsements

The Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commission's mission is that it is profoundly aware that liturgy and justice flow together, the FDLC membership and the resources produced by the FDLC reflects the cultural diversity of the United States as well as the reality of the global Church.

This Graduate Certificate in Liturgical Art and Architecture has received endorsement from the FDLC and they had the following to say about this program.

"The church building should give glory to God and also serve the needs of the worshipping assembly. This will require that those who design worship spaces or who serve their bishops on diocesan commissions will be well-versed in theology, liturgy, and ecclesiology.  They will need to have a keen sense of form and function, rites and ritual, art and architecture.  They will need to be able to lead a parish through the important process of design, building or renovation. This new degree program – a collaborative effort of academia and experienced liturgical design consultants – will draw upon the best of all disciplines.  It promises to be a valuable formation opportunity which will bear fruit in dioceses, parishes, design studios, and churches for generations."

     Rita Thiron, Executive Director, FDLC

"Liturgical Art and Architecture addresses a continuing need in the church as places of worship are built or renovated. This interdisciplinary program is designed to prepare liturgical design consultants with the wide range of knowledge and skills they will need to guide a community through the process of preparing suitable places of worship.  St. John’s, well known for its leadership in liturgical renewal, now offers us a great resource, and I am pleased to recommend this much needed and well-balanced program to those interested in liturgical design consultancy."

Gil Ostdiek, OFM, co-founder and director of the former Institute for Liturgical Consultants

“I commend St. John’s for launching a program which promises to serve the Church and her liturgy well. Godspeed!”

Cardinal Daniel DiNardo, President of the United States Conference of Bishops
