  1. Students will demonstrate a knowledge of:
    • the history, development, major themes, and texts of the Bible;
    • the major Christian doctrines, their historical development, and how these are under­stood in contemporary theology;
    • the Church's sacramental theology and liturgical practice;
    • the theology of ministry;
    • the central tasks of ministry: catechesis, pastoral care, evangelization, social justice, administration, preaching, and liturgy;
    • social and cultural dynamics as they relate to theology, faith, and ministry.
  2. Students will demonstrate the capacity to:
    • critically read primary theological texts within their historical context;
    • foster community prayer and worship;
    • teach and transmit the Christian faith to God's people;
    • interpret and preach the Bible in relationship to contemporary life;
    • care for and guide Christian people and communities in the life of Christ;
    • administer organizations and their resources with a sense of Christian stewardship;
    • lead communities of faith in just responses to social issues;
    • live celibacy as both a gift and a discipline, with awareness of its theological, personal, and pastoral meaning.
  3. Students must demonstrate a commitment to maturity in Christian ministry through:
    • personal prayer and spiritual counsel;
    • participation in the communal and liturgical life of the Church;
    • Christian dignity and witness, especially in regards to ministerial ethics;
    • respect for people from a variety of religious faiths, lifestyles, and cultures;
    • continued development of professional and ministerial skills;
    • intending to pursue lifelong learning about the Christian faith.
