Friday, March 13 COVID-19 Announcement Alumnae/i and Donor Message

Dear Alumnae/i, Donors, and Friends of Saint Ben’s and Saint John’s,

Today, we shared this message with our campus communities regarding the current COVID-19 pandemic. Of course, our community stretches far beyond campus, so we want to make sure you are aware of what is happening on campus and of aspects that may affect you, our alums, friends and donors.

As you may already have heard, Saint Ben’s and Saint John’s are moving to online instruction beginning March 23 through April 13. Throughout this time we will continue to monitor the spread and transmission of the virus and plan accordingly. International students and others with extenuating circumstances will have the opportunity to stay on campus, though they, too, will take online courses.

We have made the difficult, but necessary, decision to cancel or postpone all on- and off-campus alum and donor gatherings and events from March 16 until at least April 30. We cherish the close connections our alums, donors and friends make with one another and with our schools. But responsible social distancing can help us all do our part to slow the potential spread of this virus.

For those of you who are alums, volunteers and staff are enthusiastically planning for Reunion 2020, to be held June 26-28. We’re looking forward to hosting alumnae/i from years ending in 0 and 5. if you haven’t yet registered, we encourage you to do so by visiting www.csbsjureunion.com. We will, of course, continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments accordingly.

Some of our Bennies and Johnnies will have limited or no financial resources to travel home and to cover other expenses related to our response to the pandemic. We know that many of you may want to help these students. We are in the process of setting up an emergency fund for your gifts.

You may well have friends and family affected by COVID-19. You are in our hearts during these challenging times. Thank you for supporting Saint Ben’s and Saint John’s students and for understanding why we are taking these steps to help limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Sincerely,

Mary Dana Hinton, CSB President
Dr. Eugene McAllister, Interim SJU President
