Bill Clemens died on March 2, but his legacy lives on at Saint John's. Clemens Stadium bears his name as a result of gifts he made to remodel the stadium and add the Sprinturf artificial field.

"Bill's leadership in business, community and philanthropy are legendary in St. Cloud, and he has been a loyal friend to St. John's for decades," President Michael Hemesath said. "His legacy comes alive every day in our students through his support to our academic programs and sports facilities. He will be a part of St. John's forever."

Clemens also provided the gift that established the William E. and Virginia Clemens Chair in Economics and Liberal Arts at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University. The Clemens Fieldhouse and Clemens Library are also available to Saint Ben's students because of his generosity.

"Anybody who ever knew Bill knew what a great guy he was," John Gagliardi said. "He was always generous even before he made all that money. And once he did, he wanted to put it to good use.
