January 31, 2011

Zach Vertin currently serves as the Horn of Africa Analyst for the International Crisis Group. Vertin-based out of Nairobi, Kenya-has primarily worked in Southern Sudan. At a recent International Crisis Group event, he had the opportunity to meet another person who is passionate about world conflict resolution - former President Bill Clinton.
The International Crisis Group is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to preventing and resolving deadly conflict. Vertin has been quoted in many international outlets in recent days as the South Sudanese people vote on a referendum that could see the southern region secede from the north to form the world's newest country.
Before accepting his current position, Vertin worked in the International Crisis Group's UN advocacy office in New York. He worked on peace and security issues across the UN system with a particular focus on African issues. While at SJU, he studied abroad in South Africa, focusing on post-apartheid politics.
