Four Johnnies in 2011 International Footy Championship

Danny Hansen '08, Andrew Werner '08, Brent Mergen '08 and Ryan Sutherland '10 will represent the United States in the 2011 Australian rules football (footy) International Cup in Australia. They play with the American Revolution, the U.S. men's all-star team. The tournament will take place in Sydney and Melbourne August 12-27, 2011.

The alumni began playing footy with the CSB/SJU semester study abroad program in Western Australia.  After the trip, they founded a student footy club at Saint John's. They now play with Minnesota Freeze, a club in the United States Australian Football League (USAFL). Every three years the best players from member clubs try out for the American Revolution. A total of 14 Johnnies and two Bennies play for the Freeze.
