SJU Enrollment is Up This School Year

The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University together enrolled 3,938 first-year to senior students, which marked the fifth straight year total combined undergraduate enrollment has exceeded 3,900 students.

It is the third largest combined enrollment at CSB and SJU. The students hail from 38 states and 50 countries.

CSB's enrollment is 2,032, its fourth highest enrollment. SJU has an undergraduate enrollment of 1,906, its second highest enrollment.

New student enrollment totaled 535 at CSB and 503 at SJU for a combined first-year class of 1,038. It is the fifth time in six years that first-year enrollment has surpassed 1,000 students. The new class hails from 29 states and 15 countries.

The academic profile (GPA, ACT score and class standing) of the new class is nearly identical to last year and is more racially and ethnically diverse. American students of color made up 8 percent of the overall student population and 11 percent of the new entering class; both are high water marks for the schools. International students made up 6 percent of the overall student population and 5 percent of the new entering class.

 "We are extremely pleased with both the quality and nature of the entering class of first year and transfer students.  It represents the goals and aspirations of our staff and our colleges," said Cal Mosley, vice president of admission and financial aid at CSB and SJU. "Both institutions exceeded their enrollment targets, and matriculated a wonderful group of young people."

The overall retention of continuing students remained very high. Retention of students from the first year to the second year totaled 91 percent, a rate that continues to rank among the highest in the country.
