St. Paul's Pioneer Press recently featured George Maurer, class of 1988, in the A&E Live Section. The article specifically focused on two big shows for Maurer: "For the Sake of a Single Poem" and "Stations of the Heart". "For the Sake of a Single Poem" debuted March 16, 2009 at the Dakota Jazz Club in Minneapolis. The song cycle was based on the works of the famous German poet, Maria Ranier Rilke. SJU's own German professor, Mark Thamert, not only served as the narrator for the night, but inspired Maurer to work with Rilke's poems.

Maurer, along with collaborators Ann Michels and Jim Payne, premiered his second song cycle, "Stations of the Heart" on March 23, 2009 at the Southern Theater.  According to Maurer, this set featured a "nine-song cycle that explore[d] the milestones of romantic life through songs of hope, failed love, commitment and resolution."
