Become a Saint John's EMT
The St. John's EMT Squad is made up of CSB/SJU students who are registered with the State of Minnesota Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Students with their Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), or their Paramedic certifications are accepted on a case by case basis.
Most of our applicants are recent students from the EMT class offered by CSB/SJU each year during spring semester. We also welcome applicants who have received their EMT certifications from other training institutions. If you have completed an EMT course, but have not yet passed the NREMT test, and plan to do so, you may still apply to the squad.
Acceptance into both the class and the squad itself is dependent upon a successful application and interview process. The class is offered as a feeder course to help sustain sufficient numbers of EMT on the squad. The size of the squad is flexible but is typically capped at approximately 20 individuals. For this reason, not every applicant can be accepted regardless of acceptance into the EMT class at St. John's.
Membership on the EMT Squad requires working closely with St. John's Life Safety and St. John's Fire Department. It is a substantial volunteer commitment for members' time and energy.
