Black Lives Matter

At the College of Saint Benedict & Saint John’s University, the Student Activities & Leadership Development office is tasked with creating opportunities for students to connect with one another and build community on campus. This is a role we take very seriously, and it is impossible to fulfil without acknowledging the unique experiences our students of color possess. We recognize there are systems within our campus, local community and country that continue to perpetuate white supremacy, violence, and fear. At this time, the Student Activities & Leadership Development office would like to apologize for the role that we have played in maintaining the status quo.

As a department, we commit to doing better to serve our students of color and recognize the power and privilege we possess. We plan to use this power to not only properly speak out against issues of inequity and injustice on campus but to also remain dedicated to our strategies of inclusive hiring and development of our student leaders. We stand with our students. We stand with communities of color. We stand in solidarity with the Black community. Your voice deserves to be heard, and we are with you.

We encourage students, faculty and staff to educate themselves as we are so that we may begin to break down the barriers that divide us. We recognize that we can and must do better.

Black Lives Matter.

In Solidarity,

The Student Activities & Leadership Development Office
