Water Polo Club Constitution

Article I: Name and Purpose

Section 1: Name

The name of the club shall be the CSB/SJU Water Polo Club

Section 2: Purpose/Mission

To Provide the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s Community with an opportunity to participate in a competitive water polo team, travel to tournaments in an enjoyable and community building environment.

Section 3: Affiliation:

The Water Polo Club is a member of the Collegiate Water Polo Association, an organization that provides us with conference management and competition.

Article II: Membership

Section 1: Eligibility for Membership

All Members of the CSB/SJU Community are able to attend and participate in practices. However, only full time (3/4 credit load) students of St. John’s are allowed to participate in conference games.

Section 2: Voting Member Criteria

Any member who regularly attends practices and games and has a good knowledge of the game of water polo will be consulted for decisions, but the final decision making process will be handled by the captains.

Section 3: Removal of Members

The Captains/Officers of the team will make a decision based consultation with voting members should they feel a member has become detrimental to the team.

Article III: Officers

Section 1: Officer Qualifications

To be an officer a member must demonstrate all abilities as described in being a voting member. Officers will be selected from this group based on who demonstrates those abilities best.

Section 2: Elected Officers

Co-Captains (2)

Treasurer

Section 3: Duties of Officers

Co-Captains – will equally perform coaching duties at practices and games, including but not limited to running drills and selecting players. They will be expected to select players for game time based on practice attendance and skill equally. They are the main contact for Student Activities, JCB, etc.

Treasurer – will manage team finances including conference fees and travel payments. Will be contact for St. John’s Club Sports Director and Senate

Section 4: Vacancy in Office

In the event of a vacancy in office, the most qualified member of the voting members will be selected through a voting process to fill the spot immediately.

Section 5: Removal of Officers

An officer will be removed based on inability to complete the duties described in Section 3 of Article III.

Section 6: Appeal of Removal of Officers

An officer who has been removed can consult with voting members to appeal on their behalf to the current officership

Article IV: Elections

Section 1: Nomination Process

Any time a position becomes open, vocal nominations (including of oneself) will be taken and finalized as soon as possible

Section 2: Election

A verbal vote count of members present will be taken by the captains who will also consult with any not-present members then make a final decisions

Section 3: Special Elections

Procedure will follow Article III Section 4

Article V: Advisor

Section 1: Selection

An advisor will be chosen from the group of individuals associated with CSB/SJU that have knowledge of the water polo team, pool rules, and/or an interest in taking on these responsibilities going forward.

Section 2: Duties

The advisor will be responsible for ensuring practice and game time is available at the St. John’s Pool

Article VI: Meetings

Section 1: Regular Meeting/Club Activities

The Water Polo Club will have regular practices on a schedule that will be determined at the beginning of each practice season to best fit the current members of the club. Games and Tournaments will be announced at least 3 weeks prior to occurrence.

Section 2: Special Meetings

Any special meeting for officer election or sudden decision making will be called via e-mail and will not be a mandated for all members.

Section 3: Parliamentary Authority

Meetings will be run by the Captains in the same procedure they chose to use in practices

Section 4: Quorum*

All captains must be capable of voicing an opinion regardless of being present, membership presence will be determined by the number of members affected by the decision.

Article VII: Committees

Section 1: Committee Structure

There will be no regular committees meeting.

Section 2: Special/Ad-Hoc Committees

Committees may be formed for the following purposes:

· Decisions regarding if a certain player’s participation is satisfactory from them to play in games

· Purchasing new equipment

Article VIII: Finances

Section 1: Joint Club Board

The Club will request monies from the JCB on an annual basis to pay for tournament and equipment

Section 2: Honorariums

No one will receive honorariums

Section 3: Dues (optional)

Members will be responsible to pay their share of funds used for travel (i.e. the 2/5 not paid by the SJS)

Article IX: Amendments

Section 1: Ratification

The Officers will vote on the Constitution

Section 2: Submittal to Department of Student Activities and Joint Club Board

Any changes made to this constitution must be submitted to the Department of Student Activities and the Joint Club Board.

Article X:

The following is a required statement for all organizations:

The Water Polo Club admits students without regard to their race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and other activities, generally accorded or made available to members of the organization.

Article XI:

The following is a required statement for all organizations:

The Water Polo Club considers hazing to be a degrading and destructive activity which is inconsistent with the standards of this student organization. The Water Polo Club recognizes the dignity of every person and opposes all forms of hazing.
