Article I: Name and Purpose

Section 1: Name
Mindful Meditation Club

Section 2: Purpose/Mission

  • Introduce mindfulness and its meditation methods to all students.
  • Provide the meditation methods to help the students' develop mindfulness and relaxation technique.
  • Promote students' understanding of a world-wide religion.

Article II: Membership

Section 1: Eligibility for Membership
Membership is for all students from the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University regardless of their gender or racial, ethnic, or cultural background.

Faculty and staff who are interested in mindfulness and meditation also joins as non-voting members.

Any action of insulting or discrimination to other religions is not tolerated. Any member who commits this disrespect action will be warned at the first. If the member continues to do it, he or she will be removed from the club.

Section 2: Voting Member Criteria
The election is held at beginning of February and no later than February 15thin every academic year to select the Board of Officers which includes President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The election results will be submitted to the Joint Board Club. Secretary will inform the Election Day.

All voting members of the club are eligible to vote for the elections.

Section 3: Removal of Members
Any member, who is not follow the rules in the membership article and do harmful things for the club, will be removed from the club. A guilty member has a chance to prove innocence before quorum. After the decision is made by more than 2/3 of quorum, President declare removal of member

Article III: Officers

Section 1: Officer Qualifications
the official must be an active member. It means they have to attend most of the club's meetings (50%).

The officials do not violate to the club's constitutions.

Section 2: Elected Officers

  • President
  • Vice- President
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer

Section 3: Duties of Officers

Typical duties include:
President: preside at meetings, call special meetings, be the primary contact with the institutions, appoint committee chairs, run the election process, and plan the program as well as assign a member to run the meeting

Vice-President: assume President's duties in his/her absence, schedule meeting/practice rooms/facilities, primary contact with the JCB, plan member/officer training programs and plan the program

Secretary: take and distribute minutes of all club meetings, record keeper (current and past members, files minutes, etc.), act as the club historian, notify members of meetings, handle the official correspondence of the club,  contact members by club's email, and plan the program

Treasurer: keep all financial records, submit monthly audit statements to CFB contact, notify organization of financial issues, prepare budget/allocation requests, and plan the program

Section 4: Vacancy in Office
In the event a vacancy should occur the special election which is held in three 3 weeks for Vice- President, Secretary and Treasurers positions. In the event that the President leaves office, the Vice President will assume those duties until a special election is held within 3 weeks.

Section 5: Removal of Officers
The Board of Officers can dismiss the President's position with 2/3 votes if the President does harmful things against the club's purpose in constitution, does not fulfill the club's purpose or violates any if the constitution

The Vice-President is in charge of the President's position until the new President is elected.

Section 6: Appeal of Removal of Officers
the special election will be called after Removal of Officers. The voting members will vote among them for the new position by 2/3 votes. If the guilty officer want to prove innocent, he or she can comment to Advisor and has a chance to prove himself or herself in front of the quorum.

Article IV: Elections
The election is held at beginning of February but no later than February 15th and be submitted to the Joint Board Club. The Board of Officers will inform the Election Day.

All members of the club are eligible to vote for the elections. They can remove the member of the Board of Officers with 2/3 votes.

If something changes in the Board of Officers, there will be a special election day decided by other members of Board of Officers.

Article V: Advisor

Section 1: Selection
The club advisor should be a faculty or staff member of College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University. The advisor is chosen by 2/3 of voting members.

Section 2: Duties
the advisor is helping the club when we have questions or problems. He or she also gives advices for our activities and events. Furthermore, the advisor also helps the club with anything financially matters.

Article VI: Meetings

Section 1: Regular Meeting/Club Activities
Regular meetings and activities should be weekly open- once per week.

Section 2: Special Meetings
Special meetings are opened when it's necessary. The president will announce the special meetings.

Section 3: Parliamentary Authority
The President runs the election and other meetings.

Section 4: Quorum*
There must be at least 2/3 of voting members to have a meeting.

Article VII: Committees

The Mindful Meditation Club does not have a standing Committee.

Article VIII: Finances

Section 1: Co-Funding Board
The Mindful Meditation Club will apply for CFB money. If allocated the resources, the club will follow all CFB and institutional regulations.

Section 2: Honorariums
The guest speakers can receive honorariums from the club's funds if they are invited by the Board of Officers. None of the officials or members can receive honorariums.

Article IX: Amendments

The constitution can be amended by 2/3 of the voting members. The Secretary will announce the meeting 2 weeks before voting day.

Article X
The Mindful Meditation Club admits students without regard to their race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and other activities, generally accorded or made available to members of the organization.

Article XI
The following is a required statement for all organizations. The Mindful Meditation Club considers hazing to be a degrading and destructive activity which is inconsistent with the standards of this student organization. The Mindful Meditation Club recognizes the dignity of every person and opposes all forms of hazing.
