The Sociology and Anthropology Club Constitution
Article 1: Name and Purpose
Section A: Name
The name of this organization will be The Sociology and Anthropology Club.
Section B: Purpose
An awareness of the social contexts, forces and problems that shape human lives is central to the Benedictine value of humane living and the CSB-SJU goal of creating leaders for a global society. The disciplines of sociology and anthropology specialize in exploring these issues and are therefore have much to offer the CSB-SJU community. The purpose of The Sociology and Anthropology Club is to provide opportunities for the CSB-SJU community to explore and examine these social contexts, forces and problems.
Article 2: Membership
Section A: Eligibility
All voting members of The Sociology and Anthropology Club will be CSB/SJU students. Non-voting guests are permitted to participate in events and activities.
Section B: Voting Member Criteria
In order for a student to become a voting member of The Sociology and Anthropology Club they must sign the Official Club Roster, which can be done by signing the roster at any club meeting.
Section C: Removal of Members
In the event that a member wishing to be voluntarily removed from the club roster, the member must email the Sociology and Anthropology Club account or contact a club officer. A vote is not required for a voluntary removal of a member.
Section D: Removal of Executive Club Members
If one of the executive board club members is not fulfilling their duties as seen by other club members, a vote to dismiss the person of their duties will occur. There must be a 2/3 majority vote in order for the member to be dismissed from their position. In this event, a new election will occur to fill the empty position.
Article 3: Structure
Section A: Member Qualifications
All voting members of the Sociology and Anthropology Club must be CSB/SJU students who are interested in Sociology or Anthropology. To qualify interest students must either:
•a.) Sign up voluntarily for the Sociology and Anthropology Club email distribution list, which will also function as the Official Club Roster
•b.) Attend meetings
•c.) Participate in the organization of events
Section B: Club Structure
This club will encompass a structure made up of five (5) elected executive officers.
Section C: Officer Qualifications
In order to become an officer in the CSB/SJU Sociology and Anthropology Club, the member must be a current student CSB/SJU.
Section D: Officer Duties
President: The president of the Sociology and Anthropology Club will be responsible for calling and officiating meetings and presiding over events. They will communicate with the club members. They will be the primary contact for the club and responsible for the actions of the club.
Vice President: The Vice President of the Sociology and Anthropology Club will be responsible for filling in for the president when necessary and will also preside over meetings and events and communicate with club members. They will be the primary contact for the Joint Club Board.
Treasurer: The Treasurer of the Sociology and Anthropology Club will be responsible for budgeting and allocations, preparing budget and allocation requests. They will also submit monthly audits to the Co-Funding Board.
Secretary: The secretary of the Sociology and Anthropology Club will be responsible for taking and distributing the official meeting minutes and attendance.
Public Relations Representative: The Public Relations Representative of the Sociology and Anthropology Club will be responsible for advertising to the CSB/SJU community about activities/events of the Sociology and Anthropology Club. They will also be responsible for communicating with other clubs/social organizations about possible co-sponsored events.
Article 4: Elections
Section A: Election
The election of new officers will take place in the beginning of February. The election process will take place at either a regularly scheduled meeting or a Special Meeting. Elections will begin with nominations. Those nominated and wishing to run for a position will be given the opportunity to speak on their own behalf either verbally or in writing. Voting will take place by secret ballot. The current officers will leave the meeting room to count the ballots, and will return to announce the results.
Section B: Special Elections
The voting will be conducted as stated above. In the event of a removal from office, a Special Election will occur for the vacant position as stated above.
Article 5: Advisor
Section A: Selection
Advisor must be a CSB/SJU Professor who is chosen by the club each spring for the following year.
Section B: Duties
The duties of the advisor are to use their knowledge and experience to assist the progress of the Sociology and Anthropology Club as well as those stated in the Advisor Contract each year.
Article 6: Meetings
There will be bi-weekly meetings. The time and place will be decided by the club annually.
Article 7: Funding
The club will ask for allocated resources based on events planned for the semester from The Co-Funding Board.
Article 8: Amendments
Section A: Ratification
This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote by the members of the club. The amending vote may not occur at the same meeting as the amending motion.
Section B: Submittal to Department of Student Activities and Joint Club Board
Any changes to this constitution must be submitted to the Department of Student Activities and the Joint Club Board.
Article 9: Anti-Discrimination
The Sociology and Anthropology Club admits students without regard to their race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and other activities, generally accorded or made available to members of the organization.
Article 10: Anti-Hazing Stance
The Sociology and Anthropology Club considers hazing to be a degrading and destructive activity, which is inconsistent with the standards of this student organization. The Sociology and Anthropology Club recognizes the dignity of every person and opposes all forms of hazing.
