Biology Club Constitution
Article I. Name and Purpose
Section 1: Name
"The Biology Club" shall be the general name of the club.
Section 2: Purpose/Mission
The purpose of The Biology Club shall be:
A. To foster the advancement of science and service to society through membership in the club.
B. To provide opportunities for keeping abreast of scientific developments and literature, and to aid in bridging the gap between scientific discovery and public enlightenment.
C. To gain ideas of various opportunities for study and work in the field of biology.
D. To provide students with information and literature concerning graduate, occupational, and further educational studies.
Article II. Membership
A. Be open to all faculty and students from both colleges.
B. Include one or two advisor(s) who shall be non-vetoing and non-paying members of the club.
C. Include participation in the fall club fair at both CSB and SJU. Students studying abroad in the fall are exempt from this participation.
Article III. Officers and Elections
The following points shall be considered when electing each year's officers:
A. There will be four officers including two (2) students from the College of Saint Benedict and two (2) students from St. John's University. Each will share equal responsibility as an Executive Board.
B. There will be one additional person elected to assist in the production of the Biology Newsletter.
C. There will be one (1) or two (2) people in charge of public relations if it is deemed necessary.
D. These offices will be filled by April 1st of the preceding spring by popular vote and secret ballot from the then senior, junior, sophomore, and first-year student classes from both campuses. The names of the new officers will be subsequently submitted to the JCB.
Article IV. Amendments
Amendments to the constitution may be added with a two-thirds majority vote of the members present at the club meeting when the voting takes place.
Article V. Meetings
Meetings shall be held once a month or when thought necessary by the officers. Club members will be notified of meetings in advance by emailing and posted notices.
Article VI. Honorariums
No honorariums will be paid to any member of The Biology Club.
Article VII. The Biology Club admits students without regard to their race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation or national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and other activities, generally accorded or made available to members of the organization.
Article VIII. The Biology Club considers hazing to be a degrading and destructive activity which is inconsistent with the standards of this student organization. The Biology Club recognizes the dignity of every person and opposes all forms of hazing.
