Second SJU Red Tie Gala set for Jan. 30

More than 200 Saint John's University alumni, spouses, parents and friends are expected to join Johnnie coaches at the second annual SJU J-Club Red Tie Gala on Friday, January 30, in Brooklyn Park. The evening features a dinner, dance and silent auction with proceeds going to the Saint John's Athletic Department. Excited about the response last year, the J-Club Board of Directors is eager to see the Red Tie Gala become established as a mid-winter tradition for the University. "You don't have to be a sports fan," says Thom Woodward '70, J-Club secretary, "to enjoy a great evening filled with music, fun and members of the extended Saint John's family." Woodward adds that the silent auction will be exciting, too, with a wide array of items up for grab, ranging from a Johnnie championship golf bag to a John Gagliardi-signed football to a day on Mille Lacs Lake with a professional walleye fishing guide. Visit the Alumni Web site for more information or to register.

Tips for helping your student pick a major

"What is your major?" The majority of students will struggle with this question at some point during their college careers. Even the student who appears to have it all figured out at high school graduation typically goes through moments of self-doubt, if not a full-blown change of college major. As a parent you can help your student select the major that best suits him or her.
