Join Outdoor U and Health at Work for a new Outdoor Adventure Series for faculty and staff, held one Friday each month. Get outside, get active, and get to know the beautiful Abbey Arboretum!

Outdoor Adventure #1: Canoe to the Chapel

Meet at Lake Sagatagan Beach
Outdoor U will provide canoes, life jackets, paddles and instruction.
Outdoor Adventure #2: Plants: A Botanical Adventure

Join us for a one-mile plant hike led by biology professor, Dr. Stephen Saupe.
Outdoor Adventure #3: Frolf the Abbey Arboretum

Meet at Hole 1: top of the hill overlooking East Gemini Lake, near athletic dome

Outdoor Adventure #4: Indoor Rock Climbing
Friday, December 14
12:00-1:00 p.m.
Meet at the climbing wall on the lower level of the Palaestra (by the racquetball courts).
*Outdoor U recognizes that this outdoor adventure is in fact indoors.
Dress in comfortable/casual clothes. Wear tennis shoes and/or bring socks if interested in borrowing climbing shoes.
Outdoor Adventure #5: Ski the Abbey Arboretum
Friday, January 11
12:00-1:00 p.m.
Meet at the Old Entrance Road gates (past the Prep School)
No experience necessary. An assortment of skis, boots, and poles will be provided. Or bring your own if you have some!
Outdoor Adventure #6: Snowshoe the Abbey Arboretum
Friday, February 8

Meet at the Abbey Bell Banner
No experience necessary. Dress warm and bring your own snow boots or hiking boots. We will provide the snowshoes!
Outdoor Adventure #7: Maple Syrup Tour in the Abbey Arboretum

We'll head out to tour the sugar shack and learn about the Saint John's Maple Syrup operation during this month's adventure. It is still very muddy and snowy out there so boots are highly recommended.
Outdoor Adventure #8: Boardwalk Tour - Birding & Burns
Friday, May 10
12:00-1:00 p.m.
Meet at Abbey Bell Banner for a ride; otherwise meet at Prairie Kiosk
We'll hike the 1.5 mile Boardwalk Loop and watch for birds during the spring migration.We'll also discuss fire ecology and the way we use prescribed burns to manage the prairie and oak savanna landscape. Bring binoculars if you have them; Outdoor U has some pairs to share.
