Women's Month features keynote speaker Saima Wahab
Cultural adviser to U.S. Army to share her own story

Saima Wahab will deliver the keynote address for Women's Month at the College of Saint Benedict at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12 in Alumnae Hall, Haehn Campus Center. She will share her own story, as well as speak to the experiences of women's empowerment and women in different cultures.
Wahab moved from Afghanistan to the U.S. as a teenager. She is currently one of the only female Pashtun translators in the world and has traveled back to her home country as a cultural adviser to the U.S. Army.
Other events open to the public during the month include:
Mayda Del Valle, a slam poet and performer, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7 in Gorecki Dining and Conference Center, room 204. Del Valle, a Chicago native, was named in Oprah Winfrey's O Magazine as one of 20 women on the "O Power List." In May 2009, she was invited to perform at the White House for President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama. Her performance will confront issues plaguing society.
Joy Friedman, women's program manager at Breaking Free, a Minnesota-based non-profit which helps women and girls escape systems of prostitution and sexual exploitation, will explore violence and sex-trafficking in Minnesota at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7 in the Teresa Reception Center boardroom.
Women's Month is co-sponsored by the Sister Nancy Hynes Institute for Women's Leadership and the CSB Student Senate.
