Sigma Beta Delta to induct 21 students April 8

In a perfect world, the top college students majoring in global business leadership might receive a company to run, or an accounting major might be given a position on the board of a Big Four accounting firm.

Perhaps the next best thing, however, is to be named to Sigma Beta Delta, the highest national recognition a business or accounting major can receive at a college or university with a Sigma Beta Delta chapter.

Twenty-one College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University students will be inducted into Sigma Beta Delta at 5 p.m. Monday, April 8, in room 204A, Gorecki Center, CSB.

This is the fourth cohort of students to be inducted into the organization. A total of 80 students were inducted the previous three years.

The newest cohort consists of 13 SJU students and eight CSB students. Broken down by class, there are three seniors and 18 juniors being recognized, and by major, there are 15 accounting and finance majors, six global business leadership majors.

To be eligible for membership, a student must rank in the top 20 percent of the junior or senior class and be invited by the faculty officers. CSB and SJU wanted to make the society more elite and required inductees to have a minimum 3.75 GPA.

Through the society, members can apply for fellowships, utilize networking opportunities and gain access to competitive scholarships.

The local chapter is continuing the practice of honoring graduates who have been successful in the business, management and administrative areas. Angie Krtnick Complin ’04, talent director at Granite Equity Partners, and Ross Anderson ’03, founder and chief global mentor at Bright Global Futures, will be this year’s honorary members.
