The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University  Fine Arts Series presents Sean Connaughty's O2 on Friday, Jan. 23 - Friday, Mar. 20 in the Gorecki Gallery in the Benedicta Arts Center, CSB.

There will be a public artist reception from 4:30 - 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 in the Gorecki Gallery, with an artist talk at 6 p.m.

Connaughty's idea for the O2 was inspired by a series of experimental sculptures he created during his time exploring different ecosystems. Through experimentation and imagination, he aims to explore science, physics, ecology and how it will evolve in the future.

This exhibit will feature three or more large aquariums with floating biospheres that each contain their own ecosystems. These biospheres display Connaughty's principles of the physical world from the vantage of an artistic and improvisational mindset.   Connaughty's biosphere floats began as simple inverted underwater jars capturing air pockets and housing living plants and soil. Over a two year period, these underwater biosphere floats have increased in scale and complexity, incorporating technology and increased knowledge of ecosystems and their requirements.

Gorecki Gallery Hours:    Monday - Saturday: 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.    Sunday: Noon - 9 p.m.   For more information about the exhibit in the BAC Galleries, call 320-363-5777 or go online at www.csbsju.edu/fine-arts
