HMML undergoing major renovation this summer

The Hill Museum & Manuscript Library (HMML) at Saint John's University will be undergoing its first renovation since 1974, and will be closed from May 6 until the completion of the project in August.

Renovation of the original Marcel Breuer space will include a new main entryway and foyer that will be accessible through SJU's Alcuin Library; a welcoming study space and reading room; six private, secure study offices; and a new 820-square-foot classroom that will support innovative and collaborative scholarship with smart technology, wireless network connections and other tools supportive of the learning environment. Heating, ventilation and air conditioning, as well as fire and security systems, will also be updated.

There will be no access to the current HMML space during the renovation. Most services, including both digital and microfilm manuscript resources, will be available throughout the renovation. Access to HMML's reference collection during the renovation will be limited primarily to printed manuscript catalogs. HMML staff will be working from temporary offices in Alcuin Library. A small exhibition of The Saint John's Bible is available in the main floor reading room of Alcuin Library on the university campus. The library's summer hours will begin on May 19 with open hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There are no weekend hours during the summer.
