Claire Westby is an impressive biology student – taking upper-division Developmental Biology as a sophomore. “I was amazed by her excellent performance in the class and had I been scheduled to teach Developmental Biology in 2020, I would have asked her to be my course teaching assistant,” recalled Professor Jeanne Lust. Her summer biochemistry research internship showed off her “inherent leadership skills, intellectual capacity for advanced biochemistry and ability to articulate these complex biochemical constructs,” according to Dr. Julie Gomer. But her heart for service is what’s truly remarkable. Volunteering in VA Hospitals and Children’s Hospital. Serving those in need in women’s shelters and homeless shelters. Making mission trips to the White Earth Reservation and to Guatemala. As Westby puts it humbly, “I have a long record of service to others.”
