The CSB Dance Team was crowned the 2013 Universal Dance Association (UDA) National Champions in the Pom Division Sunday, Jan. 20 at the UDA 2013 College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships in Orlando, Fla.
CSB defeated second-place Orange Coast College (Calif.) and third-place St. Cloud State University (Minn.) to win the Pom Division.
"When the results were announced, we were a bit shocked at first, but super excited and so happy with what we accomplished," CSB sophomore captain Tori Grootwassink said.
The team also took second place in the Jazz Division, behind the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) and ahead of Lindenwood University (Mo.).
Going into the final round, CSB was in second place in the Pom Division and fourth place in the Jazz Division.
"We were very confident going into the final competition," CSB senior captain Ashley Louwagie said. "In practice, we reviewed all the judges' scores from prelims and knew what we had to do to improve and compete for first place."
"Going into this competition, the team set the goals to place second and fourth," CSB coach Laura Brunik said. "Once we accomplished that by prelims, the team wanted to push themselves harder to accomplish more, and they certainly did. Words can't express how excited and proud I am of this team."
