There’s a scene in the epic movie “National Lampoon’s Vacation” where security guard Russ Lasky (John Candy) announces to Clark Griswold’s family that Walley World is closed.

Lasky won’t be around to tell you this (Candy is, after all, in the great beyond), but the College of Saint Benedict will be closed from Wednesday, Dec. 27, through Friday, Dec. 29. Saint John’s University remains open on these dates.

Both campuses will also be closed for the Christmas (Dec. 25-26) and New Year's (Jan. 1-2) holidays.

CSB uses this down time to reduce utility usage.

To maximize energy savings, employees with CSB offices are asked to shut all window shades, turn off lights and unplug all electrical devices prior to departure (computers, printers, lamps, departmental refrigerators, etc.). Switching off your power strip will stop electricity from being used in devices plugged into the strip. If you have a thermostat, please set it at 55 degrees.

Employees should establish an out-of-office greeting in voice mail and set up an extended absence greeting on email. They should also plan ahead for the closure. The buildings will be locked and not be accessible. If you need materials from your CSB office, please retrieve them before the campus is closed.

When the CSB campus is closed, emergency calls will be handled by the CSB Security Office at 320-363-5000.
