COVID-19 Protocols Applied Lessons for Wind, Brass, and Strings
Social distancing should occur as suggested by the CDC. Currently that distance is a 6x6 foot space around each student with the student sitting in the center. In all lessons, there must be at minimum 6 feet between faculty and student.
Teaching studio must accommodate social distancing up to 15 feet.
Instrument bell should not be directed towards others.
Lessons may be offered outdoors at the discretion of the professor.
Masks are required for faculty and student.
At this time, it appears that if players wear surgical style masks with a slit for mouthpiece AND bell covers, aerosol emission is reduced.
Masks may only to be removed when playing their instrument if necessary. In instrument groups where a mask cannot physically be worn while playing, the mask should be removed in a manner that allows the mask to be replaced back on the face quickly and efficiently.
Masks should be worn by all faculty and students prior to entering the BAC.
No talking should occur in the room without a mask being properly worn.
Faculty should keep their voices at a low conversational volume. Students should also ask questions in a low conversational volume with a mask.
FYI: Face shields are only effective in conjunction with wearing a mask.
Length of Lessons
Lessons will be scheduled for 30-45 minutes followed by clearing the room for a minimum of 20 minutes for the HVAC system to change the air indoors with outside air.
Faculty and students are expected to wash their hands with soap/water or hand sanitizer prior to entering a lesson.
Faculty and students are responsible for cleaning their individual areas, including music stands, piano keyboards, and other surfaces they used in each lesson via disinfectant wipes before and after each lesson.
