Join the Jubilee Church for a praise and worship celebration as they honor the rich historical tradition of the African American church in celebrating the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and all of those who nourished and sustained him in the tradition of civil rights and justice. This year’s keynote speaker, Osheta Moore is an author, pastor, public speaker, a black mama navigating race conversations, and a peacemaker. Osheta's book, Dear White Peacemakers, written in the wake of George Floyd's death, is a breakup letter to division, a love letter to God’s beloved community, and an eviction notice to the violent powers that have sustained racism for centuries.

Taking off from Angela Davis's recent work on the role of the artistic imagination in activism, Join Dr. Kurt Hollender, CSB+SJU visiting assistant professor of German, for a Lunch & Learn Webinar on the theory of the holiday (from Hölderlin to Heidegger, to Marcuse to Angela Davis) and the praxis of the holiday in Stevie Wonder's championing of M.L.K. Day with his song "Happy Birthday." This event is in collaboration with the CSB+SJU German Studies Department and Multicultural Student Services as a part of our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 2023 Week Celebration.
Climate Justice: A Revolution of Values Panel Discussion from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM – Wednesday, January 18, 2023, in Quad 170 at S.J.U.
Join Dr. Corrie Grosse and a panel of students who attended the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) as they connect the fight against climate change with M.L.K.’s vision of a global movement for justice. Panelists include students from Climate Justice Club, Environmental Studies, and EcoHouse. This event is in collaboration with the CSB+SJU Environmental Studies Department, Climate Justice Club, and Multicultural Student Services as a part of our Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 2023 Week Celebration.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 2023 Keynote Address featuring Rev. James Alberts at 6:00 PM – Thursday, January 19, 2023, in Upper Gorecki 204AB at C.S.B.
Pastor James Alberts II of the Higher Ground Church of God in St. Cloud will deliver the 2023 keynote address for M.L.K. week at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University. In 2017, Pastor Alberts founded Higher Works Collaborative, a nonprofit organization that has worked tirelessly to advance the lives and livelihoods of the African-American community in Central Minnesota. In addition to his service with Higher Ground Church of God and Higher Works Collaborative, Pastor Alberts is a board member at the Collegeville Institute and I.S.A.I.A.H., a multi-racial, state-wide, nonpartisan coalition of faith communities fighting for racial and economic justice in Minnesota. Following Pastor Alberts’ keynote address, audience members will participate in table conversations facilitated by student leaders from Multicultural Student Services, C.S.B. Campus Ministry, and S.J.U. Campus Ministry.
