The Office of Minority Health and Health Equity (OMHHE) supports internship opportunities for qualified undergraduate and graduate students to gain meaningful experiences in public health settings. Whether you are looking for a summer internship or a year-long fellowship, the following programs provide valuable exposure to a wide range of public health opportunities.

City of Minneapolis
The City of Minneapolis offers a wide variety of paid internship opportunities as well as feeder programs to college students. The experience is not only invaluable for the intern/trainee, but has many benefits for the employer. Internships include:
Urban Scholars Program; Step-Up Program; Health Department; Police Department; Public Works Department

Clean Water Action
Clean Water Action is looking for enthusiastic students or recent graduates who are willing to work hard advancing the goals of Clean Water Action. You will assist with research and analysis on a project focusing on global warming impacts on Minnesota's water. This research will serve as the basis for materials and briefings for elected officials, candidates for office and other public audiences.

The Florida State University Summer Program for Undergraduates

The 23rd Annual Summer for Undergraduates Program will take place May 16- June 9, 2016. Applications must be postmarked by Friday, March 25, 2016.
The Summer for Undergraduates Program at The Florida State University College of Law (Tallahassee, FL) is the largest of its kind and has become a model for other law schools nationally. Approximately 60 undergraduate college students will be chosen from the applicant pool to participate in the four-week long program.

Global Health Corps
GHC provides opportunities for young professionals from diverse backgrounds to work on the frontlines of the fight for global health equity. We currently place fellows in Burundi, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, the United States, and Zambia.

Impact America
In order for our communities and institutions to thrive, we desperately need the talent, vitality, and perspective that only young people can bring. This generation of college students and recent graduates is among the most charitable in American history, with many yearning for an opportunity to make a real difference in communities of need. Impact provides that opportunity through four distinct initiatives that promote change while cultivating leadership. Their initiatives focus on eye sight, health, taxes and savings, debate as a tool for change, and college prep and success.

Minnesota International Center
MIC is part of a national network of similar organizations that work to educate ordinary citizens on global issues and connect them with international people and cultures. MIC coordinates globally-focused learning opportunities for people of all ages, bringing the world into homes, schools, workplaces and communities throughout Minnesota. Internships are offered for Spring, Summer, and Fall terms.

Public Policy and International Affairs Program
The goal of the PPIA Fellowship Program is to help students achieve a Master’s or joint degree, typically in public policy, public administration, international affairs or a related field. The organization does this through the intensive study provided by participation in a Junior Summer Institute (JSI), through partnerships with universities across the country.

Senator Klobuchar
Each year opportunities are made available for bright and dynamic college students to view, first hand, the workings of government. Senator Klobuchar's aim is to introduce interns to public service and the legislative system. Interns will leave with a diverse experience and skills that can be applied to whichever future endeavor the intern chooses to explore.

St. Cloud Area Branch American Association of University Women
This opportunity is for women in their first, second, or third year of study. It allows them to attend the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders (NCCWSL). This is an annual opportunity, the deadline is in early December and the Conference is held at a different University in the United State each June


Summer Public Health Scholars
The program is designed for undergraduates going into their junior or senior year and recent baccalaureate degree students who are undecided about their career goals. This is a rigorous program which includes Public Health course work at Columbia University; hands-on field experience and immersion in a diverse, economically disadvantaged urban environment; seminars and lectures with public health leaders; and mentoring by faculty members, ensuring students' exposure to the breadth and importance of public health as a career option.

The White House Internship
The White House Internship Program provides a unique opportunity to gain valuable professional experience and build leadership skills. This hands-on program is designed to mentor and cultivate today's young leaders, strengthen their understanding of the Executive Office and prepare them for future public service opportunities.
