Describe a time you struggled in math: I struggled so much in 6th grade math I sat down with my dad as he tried to explain to me basic algebra using a window and white board markers. We spent all day on a Sunday as I bawled my eyes out crying because I didn’t understand anything. Turns out, if it wasn’t for that long, difficult day of basic algebra, I probably wouldn’t be as good at math as I am now.

Describe a favorite CSB/SJU experience: My favorite experience at CSB/SJU is hands down Praise in the Pub that takes place every Wednesday night. I started playing the drums as I attempt to carry on Joe Penny’s legacy.

Describe a time you struggled in math: In high school math I had struggled with memorizing some of the trig rules but taking math classes at CSB/SJU opens students up to a lot more extra help when needed!

Describe a time you struggled in math: It took me a long time to figure out how to do addition and subtraction with negative integers. My teacher tried to explain it to me multiple times, but I kept messing up which numbers were being added or subtracted.

Describe a favorite CSB/SJU experience: One of my favorite CSB/SJU experiences has been petting the therapy dogs they brought in before finals Fall 2021 and Spring 2022.

Describe a time you struggled in math: In high school I struggled a lot in my calculus class, there were lots of things that I just couldn’t comprehend. Luckily my teacher noticed and reached out and worked with me to come up with different ways to think about the things I wasn’t understanding.

Describe a favorite CSB/SJU experience: Whenever there is live music playing at Brother Willie’s Pub, that is always a good time!

Describe a time you struggled in math: Last year, I took AP Calculus BC, which was a very challenging class. I missed class for a couple of days because I was sick, and I had to take a math test when I got back. I ended up getting a C on the test, which brough my overall grade down a lot. I had to work extra hard to do well on every test for the rest of the semester because I didn’t want to ruin my GPA. This was very stressful, especially if I didn’t understand a concept right away.

Describe a favorite CSB/SJU experience: Because I’m a freshman, I don’t have many CSB/SJU memories yet, but so far, my favorite experiences have been meeting my roommate in person and walking around the beautiful campuses with my family.

Describe a time you struggled in math: Whenever I struggle in a math class, I make sure to get help right away, so I don’t fall behind. I reach out to other classmates for help and have also utilized the math center and support from TA’s.

Describe a time you struggled in math: I usually struggle with the abstract concepts in math, so linear algebra and parts of applied statistics were classes that were more on the difficult side for me.

Describe a time you struggled in math: Anything dealing with proofs would often be particularly difficult and time consuming for me when initially introduced. I often got disheartened trying to understand all the nuances of each proof to reach the answer but taking the time to properly work through and understand those problems helped me to see how those proofs related to what I already knew and how they can be used to solve the more applied problems that I came across.

Describe a favorite CSB/SJU experience: Taking night hikes out on the frozen lakes and along the woodland trails at SJU.

Describe a time you struggled in math: I specifically remember the first day I was introduced to algebra that it was very challenging for me. I just could not wrap my head around the concept whatsoever and it felt like everybody else understood it, except for me. However, overcoming this struggle has been so rewarding because algebra is now one of my favorite topics in math.

Describe a favorite CSB/SJU experience: As a member of the CSB dance team, performing at halftime of the Tommie Johnnie game my freshman year was a blast!

Describe a time you struggled in math: I struggled during the pandemic because I had to take math classes in the block schedule. I really struggled because we did not have time to absorb the content and work through problems in class.  It showed me that I do best in a math class when I have time to figure out what questions I have, as well as have time to walk through examples in class.

Describe a favorite CSB/SJU experience: One of my favorite things about CSBSJU is all the things that you can do outside, such as walking in the Arb at SJU or walking around St. Joe or going down to Lake Sag! I love spending time outside, so I am glad that CSB and SJU has so many places to do things outside.

Fun fact: I had my first ever surgery 2 days before move-in day of my freshmen year of college.

Describe a time you struggled in math: I struggled a lot with math my freshmen year of high school. I could not understand some of the simplest things in geometry when it felt like everyone knew exactly how to do everything. After a while I found a new way to learn some of the basics and then things started to come together, and I was able to get through the class. I was able to figure out how I Learned the best and it made math much easier for the rest of highschool.

Describe a favorite CSB/SJU experience: I am an incoming freshmen so my experiences are limited, but my favorite thing was always coming to Johnny-Tommy football games.

Describe a time you struggled in math: I recall having a challenging time learning certain topics in my calculus II class, and the biggest help for me was working on the homework with some classmates and meeting with our teacher or TA to clarify any questions that we had.

Describe a favorite CSB/SJU experience: I love everything about football game days, from attending the tailgates to watching the Johnnies win!

Describe a time you struggled in math: A time I struggled in math was during my senior year of high school when we were learning about Euclidian distance. I had to meet with my teacher outside of class multiple times to fully understand how to fully solve a problem on my own.

Describe a time you struggled in math: When I was first learning reverse chain rule for calculus, I just didn’t understand it at all. I had to watch 3 different Kahn Academy videos before I even had an idea of what I was doing.

Describe a time you struggled in math: I struggled most in the trig section of pre-calc and trig. I found it difficult understanding why we do trig relations like cos(theta) = sin(pi/2 – theta).
