Martin Luther King Jr. Day and German Studies

Did you know that Martin Luther King Jr. travelled to West and East Berlin in 1964? Did you know that his hand-written notes on Kant and Hegel from his university days included German words in the original like “Sein” (Being) and “Begriff” (concept)?

The German Section at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University is proud to present annually on these and other surprising connections between the German intellectual and literary tradition and the struggle for civil rights in the U.S.

Look for our programming on or around Martin Luther King Jr. Day (the third Monday in January).
