Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I chose Italy because Rome interests me. The architecture, the food, and all the famous sights played a part in my decision. I also wanted to grow in my faith abroad; Rome was the perfect place to do that.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your program that made a lasting impression.

The laid-back landscape was a culture shock for me. No one is ever in a hurry; most people like to sleep in, and most people do not eat dinner until after 7 p.m. This cultural experience left a lasting impression and made me realize I need to live in the moment back home in Minnesota.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

I had a great experience abroad. I became close with 20 other people I would not have had the chance to if I had not gone abroad. I got to travel all around Europe, and I learned so much about myself. Going abroad got me out of my comfort zone, and I am grateful for that experience.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

I believe you will not regret going abroad. At a personal level, you learn so much about yourself. Whether trying new foods or exploring a new country, your study abroad experience will be filled with self-growth. Rome helped me fulfill a lot of my Integrations credits.

What advice can you offer for CSB+SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

Take advantage of every last minute abroad. Explore and try all the new food you can. Develop a connection with the people you go abroad with. In a short time, these people turn into your new family, so have fun with them and get to know them!
