Program: United Kingdom: Children’s Literature Spring Embedded
Major: Elementary Education
Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
I chose to study abroad because I have always loved traveling and this was a great opportunity to take as the U.K. Children’s Literature course fit into my schedule. I have also always wanted to visit London.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your program that made a lasting impression.
Hearing the different accents and overall language. They have different words for things compared to the U.S. (chips in the U.S. = crisps in the U.K.)
Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
Studying abroad in the U.K. gave me a better understanding of their children’s literature, being more fantasy-based and involving the beautiful countryside of England and Scotland. I also have a better understanding of traveling and exploring other cultures around the world.
What advice can you offer for CSB+SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?
Take advantage of the study abroad opportunities, especially the embedded study abroad programs if a semester does not work for you. Have a budget for food, souvenirs, and tourist attractions.
