Program: Spain Semester

Major: Psychology

Minor: Hispanic Studies

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

It worked well with my 4-year plan and has always been something I wanted to do. The opportunity to study in Spain helped me grow tremendously with my fluency and knowledge of Spanish culture.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your program that made a lasting impression.

The home stay!! I lived in an apartment with Rosario, my host mom, and her 31-year-old daughter, Lucía. I was able to interact with them through daily meals, visiting their cabin in the countryside, and conversing with their friends during casual hangouts and in social settings. This was such a highlight and makes the Sevilla program unique and such an amazing opportunity for cultural enrichment.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

Studying abroad in Sevilla allows for quick and affordable trips to nearby countries and dream destinations. I was able to enhance my travel skills and expand my awareness globally. These skills are benefits to your whole person, professionally, personally, and academically.

What advice can you offer for CSB+SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

Take a leap of faith and sign up!! I know countless individuals who describe their time abroad as the best of their lives, and I would say the same. It’s completely normal to be nervous or scared to be away from home, but do not let that keep you from the incredible time you could have.
