Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
I really wanted to expand my horizons and get out of my comfort zone. I chose Japan because I personally love the culture, I have had previous family members study abroad there, and because it was the cheapest option at the time.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your program that made a lasting impression.
There was a lounge area in the school where many students would hang out between classes because they all live about 30 minutes to an hour away and they don’t have dorms. This was my favorite place to go because I was able to meet and befriend so many Japanese students.
Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
Studying abroad helped me to get out of my comfort zone. It helped me grow as a person on a social level with others, but it also helped me become more independent. I felt through this experience I learned how to better understand others as well as better understand myself.
What advice can you offer for CSB+SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?
Just do it. Even if you don’t know anybody beforehand.
