Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I really wanted to study abroad in Europe mainly because of how beautiful Europe is, and how many opportunities to travel to the nearby countries there are. I also just love the European lifestyle, the walking, cooking, the beautiful buildings and artwork, transportation system, etc. The classes in Italy also really interested me, and they did not disappoint!

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your program that made a lasting impression.

One of my favorite memories of the whole semester was our weekend trip all CSB+SJU students went on together as a group. We went to Pompeii, Naples, and Sorrento, and it was a blast. We went on multiple tours, saw so many amazing sights, tried so much authentic food, and met many locals, getting an amazing cultural experience overall! I loved being able to be with the people from CSB+SJU as well as our professor on this trip because it helped us get closer as a group!

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

One of the main benefits I noticed from studying abroad was problem solving and adaptability skills. I was put in many situations, in a whole new country, that speaks another language, on the other side of the world from my family and friends, and I still figured it all out. It was definitely hard at times, especially in the beginning, but over time my friends and I realized that we could do it! In addition, I thought the benefit of a semester abroad really allowed me to, over time, grow comfortable living in another place and really grow in my own independence.

What advice can you offer for CSB+SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

My biggest piece of advice is to do as many things you can while you are abroad, and really appreciate each moment. Living in another country is such an amazing opportunity, and being able to be completely immersed there happens once in a lifetime, so try to go out of your comfort zone and try new things. Be in the moment as much as you can because you will really miss it when you leave.
