Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
I chose South Africa because I of the service learning component and I wanted the challenge of going somewhere exotic and completely unknown to me.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
I did my service at missionvale - a place where locals can come and recurve food and medical care. As I spoke to the locals and formed relationships with them I realized that they are so appreciative of the little they have. We are all so materialistic and want the new, best thing and we take for granted what we already have.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
Can’t put it into words. It was the best choice I ever made. It was the best experience of my life from the excursions to the relationships that were formed and I would do it 10000000 times over.
Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
Studying abroad really helped me with my communication skills and made me really appreciate everything I have and everything I get to do and all the opportunities that I have and I wouldn’t change any of it for the world.
What advice can you offer for CSB+SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?
Keep an open mind and expect the unexpected.
