Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I am a Spanish minor. Out of the options Chile seemed the most appealing based on its location and opportunity to immerse in a different culture.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

Living with a host family. Experiencing a different daily routine and how that was influenced by living in Chile.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

I loved it! I bonded with my CSB+SJU group as well as connected with Chileans. I recommend the program to anyone and everyone.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

You get to learn about another culture while witnessing what you are learning. The educational aspect takes place outside the classroom as much as it does at the university. Not to mention, you personally grow and get to learn more about yourself in ways that you cannot in a familiar environment. Professionally and academically, my Spanish significantly improved.

What advice can you offer for CSB+SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

Embrace the culture of where you are. Some people get homesick in the beginning but remember your time abroad is temporary! Take advantage of the new experiences around you.
