Program: Ireland-Cork Semester

Major: Exercise Science

Minor: Psychology/ Pre- Physical Therapy

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

When I picked a college, I knew I wanted to attend a university that made study abroad an easy process. Originally, I was supposed to go to South Africa which got cancelled, and I was devastated. Then, as I looked harder into the other programs still available, I decided on Cork and have never looked back. I knew I did not want to live in a huge city, and wanted a smaller, independent program.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your program that made a lasting impression.

The best part of the Cork study abroad program is living and attending school with not only other international students but with the Irish students as well. Meeting the Irish that lived right by our apartment helped us feel at home and welcome immediately. Some of my best memories from this abroad experience involve spending time with them.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

Overall, going abroad has been one of my favorite CSB+SJU Memories yet. Spending a semester in Ireland helped me grow my independence and willingness to accept and enjoy new situations. Going abroad has also given me some lifelong friends from all over the world which I cannot wait to visit again someday.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

There are so many benefits of going abroad beyond what can be learned in the classroom. This past semester has taught me the importance of being flexible and giving new experiences a try, while also staying focused on school and having a good balance between travel, friends, studying, and vacation!

What advice can you offer for CSB+SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

If you are debating going at all, just do it. You will not regret this experience; you just might regret not going. There are different lengths of programs available, so while I recommend going for the full semester, do whatever suits you best!
