Susie is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Australia
Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
I chose to study abroad because it was a once in a lifetime experience. I also wanted to see the world from a different perspective!
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
During my time in Australia, we had the opportunity to go to the Goldfields and spend time with an aboriginal family. I really connected with the family and had such an incredible experience learning about Aboriginal history and culture. It was the highlight of my whole entire trip!
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
Overall, I loved Australia. I wouldn't have chosen a different program because I gained so much knowledge and had so many opportunities to explore and grow.
Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
Spending a semester abroad has changed my perspective on the world. I got to learn and made many new friends from all over the world. Personally, I've grown to be more aware of the world and issues around the world. Academically, I was able to adjust to different teaching styles and learned how to adapt my study habits to that of Australia students. Professionally, I gained new network connections and learned how to connect with many different people on a deeper level.
What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?
The advice I can offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study/intern abroad is my learning experiences. One, what to pack, budgeting, and lifestyle advice. The main advice I would give/offer students is to go into a study abroad program open-minded and be ready to discuss and get used to differences around the world. The world is so different and being open-minded is so important!
