Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I always knew that I wanted to study in a Spanish speaking country in order to be fully immersed into the language. This program stood out to me because I loved the unique culture of Spain and the location would allow me to step foot in many other cultures in Europe.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

The importance of family and time spent as a family was apparent during my study abroad experience. It was interesting how almost everything in town shuts down for the families to get together to eat lunch and siesta before returning to work.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

As most will say, it was an amazing experience that will forever have an impact on my life. The immense personal growth I have gone through while studying abroad has shaped me into a well-rounded individual. I was forced to step out of my comfort zone and truly live in the moment.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

This study abroad experience has contributed to many aspects of my life. I am now able to communicate with confidence in another language and have discovered my passion to use the Spanish language in my future career. Personally I have also learned valuable life skills including how to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations and how to cope when plans go awry.

What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

If you have any interest in studying abroad, I say just go for it. It may be scary to be gone from your normal life for so long, but the benefits are endless. This is an experience that you won't get the chance to be a part of later, so why wait? It's a great way to step out of your comfort zone and learn who you truly are.
