Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I love history and had heard great things about abroad. Therefore, I really felt the desire to go and see the antiquities and experience the culture while meeting new friends.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

The first weekend abroad myself and most of the group went to Cinque Terre near Genoa, Italy. I thought it was amazing to see the way our group was able to get along and befriend each other in a short time while navigating the strangeness of a foreign country. Experiencing all the new things made the experience that much better.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

My trip abroad was amazing, I loved the meeting and befriending all the new people from CSB/SJU and the locals. I also fulfilled my desire to see the history of the places. Everywhere I went I was immersed in history.
It was an experience that I will never forget and I will always treasure.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

I feel more confident in my ability to navigate new areas. I also feel that I understand people better since I was able to meet so many new people and see how the react and change in various situations. Obviously the trip provided me with a plethora of experiences and insight into other culture and the differences that exist in other countries.

What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

I halfheartedly urge them to go! It may cost I bit more and it will be hard to be away from friends and family for a while, but the benefits outweigh the hardships immensely. The chance to spend a semester in a foreign country and learn there is not one that comes often in people's lives, it is a mistake to not take advantage of it.
