Program: Australia Spring Semester

Major: Chemistry

Minor: Psychology

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

Ever since high school I have wanted to travel, so even when I was looking at schools to attend, I was looking at their study abroad options.
I chose to go to Australia because I’ve just always wanted to go there. I also really liked that I was directly enrolled in the school so I could take classes that would apply towards my minor and other generals I needed to complete.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

Going to the Aussie rules football game was incredible. We were able to see the dedication of the fans and the intensity of the sport. It was a really cool experience.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

It was an incredible experience. I would highly recommend studying abroad in Australia. We were enrolled in the school so I was able to meet students and professors there. Even though we had to come home early, the professors were very understanding and accommodated to this development. Fremantle is an amazing town. There was so much to do and see.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

I learned how to be more independent. When you’re on the opposite side of the world, you really understand that you need to do things for yourself. I also met a bunch of incredible new friends. The classes were structured much differently there so it was interesting to learn a new style of teaching. I also really branched out of my comfort zone and tried many new things.

What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

I would say just keep an open mind. Be open to trying new things and meeting new people. It is an incredible experience that teaches you a lot about yourself and the world.
