Jackson is an Ambassador who studied abroad in London
Minor: Computer Science
Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?
I chose London due to its status as a global city. Similar to New York, London houses a vast number of culture’s and cuisine’s all at the tip of your finger. I thrive in city environments and really wanted to live and work in a large city for my abroad experience.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
I think that within London, witnessing Indian, Asian, and other European cultures blend together and create all different types of fusions was incredible. The openness of the city and how welcoming Londoner’s are is truly amazing.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
My experience abroad was the best thing I’ve ever done. In just a few short months, you become a world traveler who can navigate one of the largest cities in the world like the back of your hand. The personal growth that I and the rest of my group experienced was incredible. We all became such independent individuals and by the end of the experience, developed professional connections via our internships that will last a lifetime.
Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?
I cannot our into words how beneficial studying abroad has been. Even as someone who has been outside of the US quite a bit before abroad, the impact of living in a foreign country on your own for 4 months greatly increased my independence. I became a much more self-sufficient person and, with the help of my group, learned how to navigate studying and working in such a large city.
What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?
Just do it. If you have any reservations, just push through because it will be the best decision you will ever make hands down.
