Minor: Asian Studies

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I wanted to study abroad because I knew that it would open doors for me. Studying abroad is a great way to expand your horizon. Going into a semester abroad with strong academic, personal and professional goals is a great way to start off your adult life. I wanted to go to China because I was curious about East Asian and I wanted to challenge myself.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

I was picking oranges in a local farmers field with him and his grandkids. I had met his grandkids at the school I studied at.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

This won't do it justice.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

You gain access to people you otherwise would not have gotten the opportunity to visit. Four months is a short enough time, but also a long enough time to be away from friends and family. This allows you to detach and find yourself in away. Understanding how the Chinese value education made me, personally, take my own education for granted. I now have a deeper appreciation for the amount of schooling I have gone through

What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

China is a place that will stretch your imagination farther than any western program. It is something new that and exciting that has been around for five thousand years.
