Hannah Baumann

Hannah is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Australia

Major: Biology

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I chose to study abroad because I love to travel and wanted to have the experience of another academic curriculum. I knew Australia was the trip for me because it was the farthest away I could get from home and had a warm climate with beautiful sandy beaches.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

I had the opportunity to spend a week in the Outback while studying abroad in Western Australia. It was like nothing I've ever experienced. Our group slept outside in swags around a fire, took long walks through the bush, and made tapping sticks which are a part of Aboriginal culture. The week we spent in the Outback is my favorite memory of the whole trip.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

Overall, my study abroad experience was nothing short of amazing. I was able to do individual traveling, meet new people, and see some beautiful scenery.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

The benefits of spending a semester or short term abroad includes, but is not limited to having the opportunity to experience a different campus, climate, and culture. This opportunity has allowed me to find a stronger sense of self and learn how to adapt to another academic curriculum.

What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

It will be an experience you will never forget, so make sure to take every opportunity you can.
