Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I wanted to study abroad because I wanted to experience the world and make those really special memories that everyone talks about once they come back. I chose the Roman-Greco program because you get to live in two incredible cities, not just one, and because they are two of the most beautiful and historical places in the world.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

We attended a 'futbol' match in Rome that was just so surreal. People in the U.S. definitely get excited for sports, but the support and love that soccer gets over there puts our sports fans to shame. I mean the entire country lives and breathes soccer, so it was really cool to see all of those people coming together and showing so much pride for the same team.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

It's really hard to describe the entire experience in a small text box. There is just so much to talk about and so many things that we did, and there are things that are hard to relate to if you haven't been there. It was an absolutely incredible experience though, and I suggest it to anyone who is able to spend time abroad.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

Just a few of the many benefits of studying abroad would be being able to see the world, experience new cultures, make new friends, go out of your comfort zone, try new things/foods, better understand and be willing to try to understand different cultures, and becoming more independent, but the list goes on. It really makes you a more cultured and independent person in all aspects of your life - personal, academic and professional - and it gives you an appreciation for the things that you have here that you maybe didn't have before.

What advice can you offer for CSB/SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

DO IT!! This is an opportunity that you will never get again so take advantage of it!
