Dylan is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Austria

Major: Global Business Leadership

Minor: German Studies

Why did you choose to study abroad and how did you decide on this program?

I wanted to study abroad to broaden my horizons and spend a significant amount of time in a whole different culture than my own. I choose Salzburg pretty easily, the mountains and beautiful scenery that Salzburg offers really pulled me towards it. Also, being a German minor, I was able to complete 10 credits towards my minor.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

I traveled to Bratislava, Slovakia for a day while on our mid semester break. I made it to ten countries throughout my time abroad but this one was different. I traveled there alone and not a sole in the entire country knew who I was. I was able to experience something new first hand and by myself which I think really help me grow as a person. I had to find my way around the city by myself and entertain myself as well.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

I absolutely loved it! I think that I could have easily spent another semester in Salzburg. I made memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Based on your experiences abroad, what are some of the benefits of spending a semester abroad? How has studying abroad contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development?

As a Global Business Leadership major, being able to spend four months in different cultures really widened my eyes. I think it will benefit me in the future if I have conduct business abroad.

What advice can you offer for CSB|SJU students who are considering or planning to study abroad?

Push yourself out of your comfort zone. I would especially recommend trying to make friends from other countries, it is a great way to make connections across the world and get first hand insight to a different culture.
