Orientation Leader Selection Process Overview

Step 1: Attend the Information Sessions & Resume Workshops

Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend one of the information sessions to learn about the Orientation Leader experience and selection process. This is a great opportunity to get your burning questions answered by the current Orientation staff. Orientation Leader Information Sessions will be held in January upon returning to campus for the spring semester. 

Experience & Professional Development (XPD) will be offering resume prep workshops that are open to all interested applicants. Career Assistants will guide students in building a customized resume for the application process. Applicants are strongly encouraged to seek the help of XPD when putting application materials together.

Step 2: Complete the online application

The online application informs the selection committee about an applicant’s experiences and motivation for becoming an Orientation Leader. The application is used to determine which candidates will advance to the interview process. It is important to put extra time and energy into filling out the application completely. Online applications must be completed and submitted by Friday February 1 at 5pm.

The application includes submission of the following information:

Online Form: The form should take approximately 30 minutes to complete. You will be asked a series of questions to determine your interest and understanding of the Orientation Leader position. All answers should be thoughtful and at least 150 words in length.

Résumé: Your résumé should contain the following information as it relates to your experience at CSB/SJU. First Year and Transfer applicants should include and discuss their involvement in high school or previous institution. Please highlight the following:

  • University organizations, clubs, departments or other involvement opportunities to which you now belong or have belonged and a brief description of your involvement with these organizations.
  • Involvement in off campus organizations and a brief description of your work with these organizations.
  • Full time or part time work as well as any volunteer experience

Step 3: Group Interview (Pending Invitation)

Select applicants will be invited to the interview phase of candidate selection. Attendees must be present for the entire process. The group process interviews are designed to provide insight regarding team work, knowledge of the institution, problem solving, etc. Applicants will participate in three activities and a one on one interview during the Group Interview days.

XPD will conduct workshops to assist students in developing interviewing strategies. Applicants are highly encouraged to attend a workshop to be prepared for the Group Interview.
