Frequently Asked Questions for Orientation

What is Orientation?

Orientation is a required program for all incoming students that will help you prepare –academically, socially, and personally—to take advantage of all that CSB/SJU has to offer. You’ll meet new friends, learn about student life, activities and support programs, get more familiar with the campus and get key information on succeeding academically. The full schedule of activities will be released in early August through the Guidebook application.

Why is Orientation required for all incoming students?

Orientation is a very important element of the transition into college. Attendance is required to ensure that all new students have the information necessary to be a successful college student at St. Ben’s & St. John’s. You will learn specifics about the institutions’ academic expectations and all of the campus resources available to you. You will also be connected with an Orientation Leader (a current CSB/SJU student) who will answer your specific questions and help you navigate your transition to college.

When is Orientation?

Orientation is planned for August 26-29, 2021. We anticipate that students will move in on August 26th, with orientation events beginning that evening. Please note that this is subject to change due to Covid-19.

I have a conflict with Orientation. What should I do?

We understand students may have conflicts during parts of Orientation and may wish to be excused from some programming. On occasion, we may grant permission to miss certain parts of Orientation if it is arranged ahead of time. Some examples of approved absences in the past have included religious obligation, active military duty, medical need or dependent child care. If you have conflicts with the Orientation program, please contact the Orientation Coordinators at [email protected] or 320-363-5254 no later than August 9.

Do parents attend Orientation with their students? Is there a parent Orientation?

We invite parent and family members to attend any of the webinars that are being held prior to Move-In Day. On Move In Day, parents are encouraged to leave campus after they have assisted their student in moving belongings into the residence halls.

How do I register for Orientation?

Orientation registration will be available on July 1. Students can register for Orientation through the Hive.

How do I request disability-related accommodations?

If you wish to request disability-related accommodations, please include those requests when prompted on the registration page. These arrangements will cover you ONLY during the Orientation experience. If you have any further questions about accommodations during Orientation, please call 320-363-5254 or email  [email protected]. If you have questions about how to register for accommodations for the academic year, please contact the Student Accessibility Services Office at 320-363-5245.
