Marcus Webster Presents
Waves of Warblers: The Spring Migration in Minnesota
4:15-5:15 PM
TRC Boardroom, Main Bldg., CSB
Each spring, an estimated 5 billion land birds of 200 species leave their wintering grounds in Central and South America en route to breeding areas in the United States and Canada. Migratory birds – from Tundra Swans to Ruby-throated Hummingbirds -- gain seasonal feeding opportunities and avoid wintertime stress by migrating, but also bear significant costs. Long-distance migration requires great physiological endurance, fuel storage capacity, and exceptional navigational ability. Join Prof. Marcus Webster (Biology) for a discussion of avian migration and an introduction to the pleasures of springtime birding here at the northern end of the Mississippi Flyway.
