Stephen B. Humphrey Theater, SJU
noun: a street dance that originated in Memphis, also known as Gangsta Walkin, choppin', or Urban Ballet.
Lil Buck is an international phenomenon who grew up jookin' on the streets of Memphis. An offer to study with New Ballet Ensemble provided him with technical skills and rigor. These, synthesized with his street style, allowed him to craft his own highly refined personal style that has gained national attention. He has performed his fluid hybrid of classical and street dance alongside Yo-Yo Ma, Madonna and Janelle Monae.
WHAT MOVES YOU is an intimate duo collaboration between Lil Buck and one of today's youngest and most accomplished classical cellists, Mihai Marica. Lil Buck and Mihai will present an interactive performance that reveals the intricacy and immediacy of the creative process between movement and music, and challenge the boundaries of what the two instruments - the body and the cello - can do.
